SAYALONGA … mains “long skirt”

         

 

 

        

Sayalonga is situated at 359 metres above sea level and has a population of approximately 1.300 inhabitants. It is 9 km from the coast and about 40 kilometres from Malaga. It is located in a valley close to the Natural Mountain Parks of the Sierra Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama.

An important monument is the Santa Catalina Church, also historic and artistic is the circular cementary, this is the only one in whole of Spain constructed in this round form. Because of its unique style it is one of the most visited architectual monuments in the Axarquía with more than 3,000 visitors a year.
In Sayalonga a narrow street called “Callejón de la Alcuza” can be found. This street is only 50cm wide at its narowest point!. It's the smallest one in the whole of the La Axarquía!

            

    

The most important fair (feria) is the day of the Nispero which take place in May. Tradicional dances called "Fandangos de Güï"are performed on this day and more than 1000 kilos of Nisperos are given away at the visitors. The big summer village party is held in july and last for 3 days and nights. Oder Fairs are Virgin the Rosario on 7 october.


Present day Sayalonga offers the visitor and its people a quiet easy going life-style, a wonderful village in Arabic style, white houses, narrow streets , tree shaded plazas, some excellent bars and restaurants and a wonderful sunny climate.
